Since in year 628 the Goodess of Kannon who came to this world and appeared from the Sumida-Gawa River was enshrined in Asakusa, The Asakusa city had created its own local community centered around the Senso-ji Temle.
After entering the Edo era (1603-1867), The city was developted as a center of the Edo culture.
Entering the 21st century, City of Asakusa started Tokyo Gidai Matsuri in 1989 aiming for establishment of Asakusa's identity, defining the city is a starting point of the world city Tokyo's culture and history.
The event shows the history of Tokyo in a period costume parade . Enjoy to watch the time changing -from the very beginning era (Asuka Era 628 to 709 ) to the end of Edo era (Meiji Era from 1868).
The dance is performed in the monring before the Tokyo-Gidai-Matsuri held in the afternoon on the event day.
Shirasagi-no-Mai is a reappearance of the picutre scroll "Senso-ji Keian-Engi-Emaki" which drawed the Edo Festival parade in 1652, commemorating the 100th establishment of Meiji era in 1968.
You will see the manner of the Heian era(760-1191) in the ritual dance.
